I am far from any sort of cook and have often stated that I don’t know how to cook my favorite foods. In reality, it is truly just because I have never tried.

Whether I stay at a hotel or resort when traveling, I almost always gravitate towards breakfast and brunch meals that have bananas incorporated into them. Bananas have been highlighted in wonderful treats such as banana foster crepes, banana spring rolls, stuffed french toast, and many others!

This easy and simple caramelized bananas recipe makes 1-2 servings. It can be enjoyed alone or as a topping to some of your favorite treats like ice cream and oatmeal!

Ingredients

  • 1 banana (sliced or halved)
  • 3-4 tbs brown sugar
  • 1-2 tbs butter
  • 1-2 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1-2 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Directions

  1. Melt butter in a small pan on med-low heat.
  2. Add bananas
  3. Add brown sugar and spices
  4. Cook for 2-5 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened and brown. You can adjust the sauce to your liking by adding more butter or sugar.
  5. Serve.

Tips:

For a thinner sauce, add more butter after the brown sugar. This reduces some of the sweetness and makes a light sauce for toppings!

Banana slices should be thick to uphold their structure while cooking.

To easily halve bananas, do not remove the peel and cut both ends off. Cut down the center and remove the peel.
